Outdoor Weekend Events May 4 - 6

This weekend is full of great outdoor events!

Uptown's RiverFest presented by Salt Life kicks off Friday and lasts all weekend! Enjoy food trucks, live music, paddle board races, vendors and white water rafting specials!

Cheer on cancer survivors at Relay for Life Friday evening through Saturday morning. A Luminaria Ceremony begins at 9:30 p.m. edt Friday night to honor those affected by cancer.

Race like the horses in the Kentucky Derby Saturday morning starting at the Chamber of Commerce!

Compete in a four-mile and 10-mile bike duathlon for Go Nuts King of the Rock race at Flat Rock Park Sunday morning.

This weekend's highlighted event is the Cotton Pickin' Fair Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. edt in Gay, Georgia. Listen to live music, shop, eat and watch a magic or puppet show at this family-friendly festival!

Ellen Gay McEwen is the producer and director of the Cotton Pickin' Fair.

"They are in for such a treat because the Cotton Pickin' Fair is different from any festival you'll ever go to. There's 350 of the very best exhibitors from all across the country, but what's unique is they are nestled in and around these historic buildings," says McEwen.

And the Cotton Pickin' Fair's roots lie deep within the community.

"Columbus really made us start it because the interstate was being built between Atlanta and Columbus. But when that happened, people quit using Georgia 85 which is how people had gone from Columbus to Atlanta and we didn't want you to forget Gay, so my family in 1972 decided to use the downtown portion of our fair to promote Gay, Georgia as a wonderful place to live and visit!"
