Ft. Benning officials say wildfire smoke could affect east Columbus

WRBL Staff - FORT BENNING, Ga. - Fort Benning officials say they have a wildfire burning in the K-1, K-2, and K-3 training areas in the Northeast quadrant of the reservation. The fire is over 500 acres in size and is in a contained area just east of the Upatoi Creek.

Officials say the wildfire is producing large amounts of smoke and with winds expected to be generally from the east Tuesday night, the smoke could could affect eastern Columbus, the Sandhill Cantonment Area and the Custer Road area.

The fire is expected to burn itself out Tuesday night, but there will be a strong potential for smoke in the above mentioned areas.
