St. Simons Island
The Largest of Georgia’s Golden Isles, St. Simons Island has something for people of all ages.
I first visited St. Simons Island about four years ago with two friends. It’s the perfect alternative to the spring break/college beaches of Daytona and Panama City. Yahoo Maps estimates a trip to St. Simons Island will cost you 265 miles. It’s a drive under six hours, making it perfect for a weekend getaway, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing, quiet couple of days.
So what is there to do?
St Simons is home to excellent fishing, especially in the summer. Deep Sea fishing, surf casting, pier and bridge fishing are all there. You can catch anything from mackerel to grouper and even shark.
The beaches are clean and perfect for sand sculpting for the youngsters and kite surfing for the more adventurous.
Wine tasting, painting lessons, pottery classes and art exhibits can be found near the downtown area, and throughout the summer there are all sorts of events and festivals.
There are plenty of shops and restaurants to visit. I recommend Mullet Bay Seafood Restaurant, for excellent seafood and service!
