After more than 60 hours of competition and less than five hours of sleep, the 2008 Best Ranger Competition is over.

Army Chief of Staff General George Casey was the guest speaker at the 25th Annual David E. Grange Best Ranger Awards ceremony.

This year’s winners were Staff Sgt. Shayne Cherry and Staff Sgt. Michael Broussard.

Both men are from Fort Benning's 75th Ranger Regiment. General Casey told News 3 the Best Ranger Competition is a good exercise for all rangers to take part in.

“Folks coming out of combat need some time to get back, this is hardly basics, but need to get back to basic soldiering kinds of things, and this competition is exactly the kind of thing that reinforces standards, physical fitness, and discipline in the force,” Casey said.
