The U.S. Army has launched an investigation into the disappearance of a Fort Benning soldier who has been missing for a little over five months.

Private Adam Martin enlisted in the Army last July when he was living in Texas.

He completed his basic training at Fort Jackson South Carolina and then came to Fort Benning in October for Airborne School.

He didn't show up for formation on Monday, November 5th, and hasn't been heard from since.

Martin's mom says it was sometime during the weekend of November 3rd and 4th that he packed up the few civilian clothes he had and left his barracks at Fort Benning.

Donna Kay Martin says no one has heard from him since. News 3 spoke to her by phone from her home in Palestine, Texas.

“I know the very last thing he said to me was that he was going to send me some money. I can't forget that and I had told him not to that he needed to keep his money,” Martin said.

The picture on your screen is from Adam's basic training graduation ceremony last October just before he was accepted to airborne school at Fort Benning. This was the last time his mother and sister saw him.

“I don't ever remember going that long without talking to him, so I was kind of concerned, even before they called me,” she said.

Since Private Martin didn't show up on the morning of November 5th, he was considered absent without leave or AWOL by the Army.

His records were sent to Fort Knox Kentucky, and he was dropped from the Army roster.

The Army usually doesn't investigate AWOL soldiers, but announced last week they had reason to begin an investigation into the disappearance of Martin.

The Criminal Investigation Command of the Army won't say what that reason is, but they issued a statement to News 3.

"The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the disappearance of PVT Adam Martin from Fort Benning.

Anyone with information should contact the Fort Benning CID Office, the Military Police, or the local police,” said Christopher Grey with the CID.

For now, Donna Martin is holding onto her hope and is praying she can find out what happened to her son.

“I keep wanting a happy ending, though I just don't think I'm going to get it. I don't have any idea what happened to him,” she said.

She says she's concerned though, because she's received Adam's bank statements since his disappearance and it shows no money has been spent since he went missing.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Martin family are asking your help in finding more information about what happened to Adam Martin.

If you have any information or know anything about this case, you are asked to call the CID Office at Fort Benning. That number is 706-545-7907 or the Columbus Police at 706-653-3400.
