On Thursday morning Bradley Fighting Vehicles from Fort Benning will be rolling up and down Front Avenue.News 3 On Your Side
It's a training exercise to test out new cameras on board.
The Cannon Brew Pub sits on Broadway, just a block away from Front Avenue. That's where the Bradley Fighting Vehicles will be rolling through town. The Cannon Brew Pub is known for their military menu, and they say they are expecting big business from the Thursday's crowd.
The exercise will take place on Front Avenue between 9th Street and the 13th Street bridge. The purpose of the training exercise is to see how soldiers operate the Bradley Vehicles while using new camera vision. The cameras are designed to help soldiers distinguish between civilians and enemies in crowded urban areas. That's why Fort Benning wants the public to come out and be apart of the crowd.
Major Shane Sims works with the Soldier Battle Lab at Fort Benning. He is directing the experiment. He says, “You can imagine millions of people and millions of cars. That affects the way things look on the outside of a vehicle, we simply can not replicate that on Fort Benning.”
Jack McGraw is the Front of the House Manager at The Cannon Brew Pub. He says, “I think it will be really good for downtown. It could get a lot of people who haven't been down this way familiar with the area, bring new people down, new people from Fort Benning.”
The Cannon Brew Pub is just one of the businesses on Broadway prepping for crowds on Thursday. No roads in uptown Columbus will be closed. Fort Benning officials want the traffic to be part of the exercise.
The Bradley fighting vehicles will rumble down Front Avenue beginning at 9 AM on Thursday. At 2 PM, the vehicles will stop so the public can take a closer look.
