A request for legislation impacting parking fees is among 15 items on Columbus’ proposed 2008 Legislative Agenda.
Tuesday, representatives from the city, school board, and the chamber of commerce will meet with legislators to present their “wish list.”
Parking fees are a hot topic.
The city is asking for a law that would prevent any type of vehicle registration or transfer --and-- license renewals or reinstatement if a person has outstanding parking tickets.
Tax Commissioner Lula Huff is openly opposed to the law because of the strain it would put on the tax office. She also argues the city would not be able to enforce the law fairly among all offenders.
City manager Isaiah Hugley says the law would be just another tool to get people to pay their parking tickets.
The idea is not a new one. The request for legislation relating to parking fees was carried over from 2007.

Tuesday's luncheon between city leaders and state delegates is not open to public.
