A business fire started just before 10:00 Monday morning in south Columbus.News 3 On Your Side
The fire occurred at Columbus Towing and Recovery at 1657 South Lumpkin Road.
The fire started in the back of the building.
A couple of workers were in the building when the fire started, but everyone did get out safely.
One firefighter suffered burns on his shoulder and has been taken to the hospital.
The building used to be a gas station.
Battalion Chief Lester Talley of the Columbus Fire Department says propane and oxygen tanks blew up as a result of the fire.
“A couple of guys working, they weren't doing any welding, they were just working on some metal that an ignition happened in the back of the bay, we don't know what started it,” says Lester Talley.
Employees of the company say no cars or trucks were damaged.
The Columbus Police Department uses this towing company to clear vehicles after accidents; those cars were also not damaged.
