The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a man shot outside his Beauregard home Wednesday night died hours later following surgery. Opelika Auburn News
Felton Tate, 44, was shot multiple times, mainly in the torso area, according to Lee County Sheriff Chief Investigator Capt. Van Jackson.
Tate had just arrived at his home on Lee Road 39 and was outside when the shooting occurred around 9:10 p.m., Jackson said.
Tate was transported by helicopter to The Medical Center in Columbus, Ga., where he immediately went into surgery, Jackson said. Tate died at the hospital at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
Tate’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy, Harris said.
