Principal Donna Hart talked about 8-year-old Arturio and 9-year-old Alijah Rozier before starting the traditional field day activities at Key Elementary School.News 3 on Your Side
School Counselor Anjulique Bryant says "it was very important that we commemorate them in a way that they would appreciate."
She says the ceremony was a way to send a message of hope to the students. She says "through this tragedy, we're trying to send a message of faithfulness and of being there for each other."
Many people who knew Arturio and Alijah remember them as outgoing and fun-loving boys.
Steven Houston,a band member from Spencer High School says he knew them and remembers giving them money for treats. He says "the were some fun outgoing boys, loved to play and liked to ride their bikes to the store. Every time they'd see me, Steve can I have a dollar?"
Bryant says she still remembers last Friday when she walked them across the street to go home. She says "we really take in our kids more than just students, we take them as our own.
Bryant sasy she has learned a lesson from this incident that she will spread to her students.
She says "make everyday precious because we don't know."
