Fourth graders in Alabama are at the top in reading improvements.

The National Assessment Governing Board rates the states on how well students did in reading and math.

Fourth and eighth graders take the National Assessment of Education Progress tests every two years.

The state is linking the improvements to the Alabama reading initiative and the Alabama math, science, and technology initiative.
