Friday has been designated as “College Colors Day” in Alabama by Governor Bob Riley, and he’s encouraging Alabamians to wear clothing that features their favorite college or university on that day.

Alabama is home to more than 50 colleges and universities. Each year, royalties from the sale of merchandise bearing Alabama college and university colors generates more than $4 million for scholarships, according to the Collegiate Licensing Company.

“Our colleges and universities make so many contributions to our state. College Colors Day helps us remember their achievements and celebrate the important role they play in Alabama,” said Governor Riley.

The Governor signed the proclamation designating Friday as College Colors Day at the State Capitol surrounded by mascots of Alabama colleges and universities.
