Her career path led in one direction, but she made a turn along the way toward education.

Lori Marstin, a reading teacher at Midland Middle School, is a winner of the Golden Apple Award.

Marstin spent seven years in the banking industry before giving teaching a try.

Her students describe her class as fun. She says as a teacher, she knows she sets the tone in the classroom.

"You have to bring you. You have to show up fresh everyday. You have to show up. If they know it's exciting for you to learn, then it's going to be exciting for them to learn. They feed off the energy you bring to the classroom," said Marstin.
