After weeks of waiting, we finally know which of the three schools in our area won the Goody's Good Deeds for Schools grant.News 3 On Your Side
“I'm fired up, I almost jumped through the roof, this is a great day,” says Marty Durden.
Friday was an exciting day at Fox Elementary.
The school received a check for $10,000 from Goody’s for winning the grant.
“The kids are hungry to read and the teachers have this great program called fox reading buddies but one thing they don't have is books, so I just saw there was a need,” says Durden, who wrote the grant.
Durden works with the program.
Students from Brookstone read with the kids at Fox Elementary once a week.
He says these kids need more books and he could see the potential these kids have.
“If you can read you can educate yourself and these kids need that,” says Durden.
And now they have it.
This money will go to buy more books for the program.
The check represents the future of the reading program and the kids couldn't be happier.
“We can have books for our school and can help us a lot,” says Paige Thomas, a student.
That help is here and here to stay.
Fox Elementary is one of 50 schools across the country to receive the $10,000 check for various projects.
