The West Central Health District wants to remind people not to reuse runoff water from a kitchen sink or bathtub.
It’s called "gray water," and it's illegal in the state of Georgia to reuse it.
The water can contain contaminants.
“People think they can use for irrigation and things like that,” says Shawn Taylor, Environmental Health Specialist, Columbus Department of Public Health. “But it's generated basically from a domestic process, whether it's bathing, laundry, washing dishes. But that water does carry food residue, some chemicals -cleaning chemicals, detergents.”
