It'll cost you more to put that Thanksgiving meal on the table this year.
The American Farm Bureau says the average cost for 10 people is $42.26.
That's an increase of just over four dollars from last year's average.
News 3 went grocery shopping Monday to see how what items are costing more this year and if shoppers are concerned.
Publix Super Market on Bradley Park Drive is busy.
Holiday shoppers are trying to get all the fixings for the big Thanksgiving meal just days a way.
“People are, it looks like they are planning even ahead this year in comparison to other years, so we've been busy, almost a week early than we typically are,” says store manager, Randy Burt.
Even though they are planning ahead, it's still going to cost them more.
The American Farm Bureau says this year's meal will cost you more, about four dollars more.
“There are a lot of things that are contributing to that, a demand internationally for raw eggs this year has driven the price of eggs up,” says Burt.
What else?
We went shopping to see what Thanksgiving staples will cost you more this year.
First we started with the turkey, the most important item on the list.
The American Farm Bureau says the cost of a 16 pound turkey is up $1.93 this year.
And to go along with the bird, sweet potatoes.
These will cost you 17 cents more this year.
And what about milk?
Well, plan on paying almost a dollar more for a gallon of whole milk.
“The potatoes and stuff like that, you're going to eat that anyway no matter what, you have to have them, so you going to eat them, says Susan Aucoin.
Most of the things in your cart are going to cost your more this year, but not everything.
The cost of stuffing is actually down this year.
You will save about 12 cents this year compared to last.
And stock up on those veggies, the cost of carrots and celery went down too.
Even though it will cost you more this year, folks at Publix say they haven't seen the shopping slow down.
So pack the cart with what you want, but be prepared when get the register.
