A police officer in a small Russell County town finds himself in trouble with the law. Marvin Christian, the acting Hurtsboro Police chief has been arrested. Christian was arrested in Union Springs, Alabama over the weekend. Union Springs is located in Bullock county. He was charged with kidnapping and domestic violence. Five months ago five residents living in Hurtsboro filed a petition with the Russell County probate judge trying to get rid of the towns charter. Hurtsboro resident Bob Schweiger has led that campaign by getting signitures. And with the arrest of acting police chief Marvin Christian, Schweiger says his efforts just got easier. “And hopefully things will get better and we can get the charter removed and the county can take over with the Sheriff, and the garbage people. Everything should be a lot better and run more efficiently if the county runs it” Schweiger said. Marvin Christian is out of jail. He bonded out Monday on a 21-thousand dollar bond. News Three tried to reach Christian by phone for his side of the story along with Hurtsboro Mayor Sandra Tarver, but our calls were not returned. There will be a hearing on July 21st in which a judge will decide whether to abolish Hurtsboro's charter. If the court sides with the protesters, the mayor and city council positions would be dissolved andTim Reid treid@wrbl.com news 3 on your side
the county would take over.
