Local Student is State Reader of the Year

(Columbus, GA)- Jack Hooper, a 7th grade magnet student at Arnold Magnet Academy, is named the 2008 Georgia Reader of the Year. Hooper and his language arts teacher, Mrs. Ronda Allen, were honored at a reception hosted by the Georgia Reading Association at the International Reading Conference, in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

He has read 74 books (over 6 millions words) this school year. He reads an average of at least 17 hours a week. His essay on “What Reading Means to Me” was chosen as the Muscogee County School District winner. Hooper represented the district’s Reading Council at the state level competing against thousands of other essays submitted by middle schools from all over the state.
