The Place in Augusta, Georgia, is one of 54 nursing homes across the country on Medicare’s worst nursing homes list.

The government is trying to make it easier for consumers to identify bad nursing homes.

The Place and other homes on the list failed to make improvements after being flagged by inspectors. Inspectors look at medications, help with daily tasks, and preventing accidents and infections when making their requests for improvement.

But at least one worker says the Augusta home has met all the requirements.

“We’ve actually had surveyors walk through here this month and they did not find anything wrong here so we are doing very well now,” said Jane Lancaster, Nursing Supervisor with The Place. “You can come in here on any given day and talk to residents’ family members and they'll be satisfied.”

News 3 is On Your Side with nursing homes in Georgia and Alabama that made the list.

In Georgia, in addition to The Place at Augusta, Laurel Baye Healthcare of Lake Lanier in Buford made the worst list. Shoreham at Marietta is on it as well.

In Alabama, only two homes made the worst list including Eastview Health Care Center in Birmingham and Woodley Manor Health & Rehabilitation in Montgomery.
