Students in class on Wednesday are learning about grammar, everything from pronouns to compound clauses.
Mrs. Butler wants her students to really understand the material.
“She really gets us to communicate well with us, in her teaching and she puts student’s names in sentences to make it more fun,” says student Xavier Woods.
“I have an interactive teaching style, I try to let the students and what they are learning direct me so, I’m flexible,” says Laura Butler, a golden apple winner.
Her students say its working.
Anna Laura Davenport nominated Mrs. Butler.
She says Mrs. Butler is one teacher who really does something different.
She gets students excited about their education.
“She deserves it because she does a really great job with English and she makes it fun and exciting and she explains it well,” says Anna Laura Davenport.
Mrs. Butler teaches English with more than just a grammar book.
She teaches it with passion.
That’s why she is this week’s winner of the golden apple.
“Teaching is a difficult job and its time consuming and it doesn't end at five o'clock and this is the kind of thing that really, pat on the back is a wonderful thing, it really keeps you going,” says Mrs. Butler.
Laura Butler says language arts class is more than just learning about grammar and creative writing, it’s learning how to communicate effectively.
That’s why she wants her students to understand all the individual parts of a sentence or a piece of writing, so they grasp the entire body of work.
