Babbes Douglas, the Executive Director at Second Harvest Food Bank, says "this is just a blessing, it's really gonna help us through the summer months." News 3 on Your Side
She's talking about the "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. Douglas says it might be Columbus's biggest year.
"it's fabulous this year, this year, Publix provided bags and the letter carriers left the bags a day before."
Douglas says mail carriers were making multiple trips from their routes to drop food off at the postal service.
"I've had some carriers say "this is our third trip back!"
Willie Alloway is a letter carrier and food coordinator. He says this event is what he looks forward to each year.
"everyone is happy about the response that the patriots have given us and we're just so glad to do it."
Alloway has been doing this for over ten years, and he says it proves that America is always willing to lend a hand.
"we really help the down trodden and when things go bad, that's when Americans really step up and help each other."
