Last night shortly after 10:15, police were called to Sheffield Drive near Macon Road. A Columbus patrol officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Macon Road for a traffic violation. The vehicle fled leading police to Sheffield Drive where one suspect jumped out of the car.

Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren says, “The officer pulled up on the guy, saw him as he came out from behind the tree, ordered him to show his his hands two or three times, and the individual didn't. The officer fired two shots, the individual was struck twice.”

The man is now in stable condition. The car the suspect jumped from was found on the same block. Police have not released the name of the officer who fired the shots, but they are saying the officer in question has been placed on administrative leave. Chief Boren says he will now turn the investigation over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Police are not yet sure why the man fled.

It is not clear if the suspect knew someone who lives on Sheffield Drive.
