A Phenix City minister is arrested and sent to to jail after an altercation at his church. Officials tell News Three some kind of feud between
the pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a family in the congregation led police to arrest the pastor. It happened last sunday October
14th during service at the church located on South Seal Road in Phenix City. Pastor Lafayette Claiborne was arrested after deputies were
called to the church. Russell County Sheriff Tommy Boswell tells News 3 that Claiborne was out of control and causing a scene during church
service. Boswell says "What we know is we had a court order that he was not to interfere with the church business. When the deputy got there
he did interfere. We didn't charge him with violating the court order, he was charged with disorderly conduct for his actions." Officials say this
incident was the result of a personal feud between Phenix City Councilman Arthur Sumbry's family and pastor Claiborne. Every year the Sumbry
family uses the church for a family concert. According to court documents Claiborne was supposed to let the family use the building because
the Sumbry's got a court order. But the pastor refused until police arrived. Neither Claiborne nor Aurthur Sumbry wanted to talk on camera about
the incident. Claiborne is out of jail on a 500 dollar bond.
