Officials have talked about it for years, and now its official. Phenix city leaders purchased the triangle property from the Phenix city housing authority.
That means 72 public housing apartments and 13 buildings in all will be torn down. The city will first deed the land over to the Downtown redevelopment authority. And then the property will be handed over to Troy University. The school plans to build a school of business there along the riverwalk. JW Brannen from the downtown redevelopment authority tells News three he's happy this major deal is finally underway. “Well it's a big jump start to our city and the good things we've been trying to work for. Everybody that worked on this project have all worked as hard as they could. And I'm just really excited”. The city paid the housing authority 2.9 million dollars to purchase the triangle property. Officials say after the project gets going, the next big project is the "Phenixian condominium deal. That project will cost 35-million dollars and will be a ten story condo.
