Phenix City Woman 3rd Runner Up in Pageant

A Phenix City woman was the third runner up in the Miss Alabama Nursing Home Pageant Tuesday.

Lisa Strickland entered the pageant as Ms. Canterbury Health Care.

Strickland and 69 other contestants took part in the pageant Tuesday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham.

The contestants were narrowed to ten finalists. They were judged on their involvement in their nursing homes and on their outlook on life.

The winner was Ms. Roanoke HealthCare Center Trina Ward.

Ward was born in Washington state where she was the first physically challenged student to fully integrate into a regular classroom.

Here is a list of the runners-up, as provided to us by the Alabama Nursing Home Association:

1st Runner-Up: Ms. Woodland Village Nursing Home, Marie Bullock, Age 77, Cullman
2nd Runner-Up: Ms. Thomasville Nursing Home, Sue Mouring, Age 94, Thomasville
3rd Runner-Up: Ms. Canterbury Health Care, Lisa Strickland, Age 47, Phenix City
4th Runner-Up: Ms. SunBridge for Gardendale, Miriam Sampsom, Age 60, Gardendale

“The ladies that participated in the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant should be commended because they are all wonderful ambassadors for their individual nursing homes and our profession in general,” said Alabama Nursing Home Association Executive Director Louis Cottrell.

Lisa Stickland was born in Columbus and now lives in Phenix City. She graduated from a vocation school in Clio, Alabama is 1981 and was elected homecoming queen her senior year.
