Auburn Police addressed a roomful of reporters Friday afternoon to set the record straight.

"The Department of Forensics has told us she was not sexually assaulted. I know that's a rumor. I've made it clear to the family she was not sexually assaulted," said Assistant Chief Tommy Dawson Friday.

Dawson also said the Department of Forensics is investigating a gas can to see if it was related to the crime. Dawson believes that an accelerant was used to help torch Lauren Burk's car. He wouldn't say exactly where they discovered the gas can. "All I want to say is that it was found in the downtown area of Auburn."

Dawson also released pictures of a 2001 black Honda Civic, a picture that shows what Lauren Burk's car looked like before it was burned. He says he wants anyone who saw that car at any point Tuesday night to call the task force at (334) 501-7337. Dawson says even if someone thinks they saw it, he is urging them to call.
