Three friends are running across country to honor an Iraq war veteran and make a stop in Columbus.

Andrew Wahila, Matt Durkin and Ken Stannard began their 2,800 mile trek cross county February 1 in Savannah Georgia.

The trio is running to raise money for a scholarship in honor of Wahila's cousin, who died in a car accident while home on leave. The money will be given to a senior at Union-Endicott High School in Endicott New York.

Today is the 10th day the group has been on the road. They are traveling with no support car, which means they are carrying everything they need and sleeping in tents. Tonight a Columbus resident has opened their doors to the runners. After a restful night sleep and one day break the group will hit the road until they reach their final destination San Diego California.
