The Russell County Commission is looking into video bingo and how to handle it if a business wants to include it. County attorney Kenneth Funderburke says 15 counties in Alabama including Russell allow bingo. So the Russell county Commissioners are looking at how other Alabama cities are regulating video bingo in case they have to deal with the issue in the future according to Gordon Cox. “There have been several counties around us that have been approached, and this is just something we're doing in self defense to keep from having to take care of the problem after it occurs. We could cut it off at the pass you might say”. According to State law, video poker is illegal. In 2006 the Internet Cafe in Phenix City was shut down. The Russell County District Attorney said the
business was a front to provide internet service, but was really used for video gambling. According to state law, If a business has video bingo all
the profits must be given to charity. Alabama's governor and Attorney General oppose video bingo and have been trying to have it banned.
