An eighth grader, who allegedly brought a gun to school hoping to sell it, is now suspended.
The incident happened at Long Cane Middle School, which is in Troup County.
A parent tells News Three that a student brought a pistol to school on Tuesday hoping to sell it.
That parent says another student saw the gun during a gym class and reported it to the teacher.
The student is suspended, pending a hearing by a disciplinary tribunal panel.
Troup County Superintendent Ed Smith, tells news three,
"The matter is still under investigation. Though the weapon was not used in a threatening way, bringing it to school was a serious violation of the school environment, our policy, and the law,” say Smith.
He also adds that there will now be a full-time law enforcement officer at the school to ensure safety.
He says he believes it's a dangerous, but isolated incident.
