We now know more about the return of Fort Benning's 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team (HBCT) from their deployment in IraqNews 3 On Your Side
It's official, the torch party of 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, made up of around 360 soldiers has left Iraq and is in Kuwait, getting ready to return home after almost 15 months in Iraq.
News 3 learned this new information from Colonel Wayne Grigsby, commander of the 3rd HBCT.
He says he couldn't give News 3 specifics when on the torch party will be home for security reasons, but he did say the mood at the Brigade's headquarters is very positive and his soldiers can't wait to get home to their families.
“It’s a very exciting time for the soldier and for the family members. I mean its just incredible and I mean the moral is high and the soldiers are looking forward to getting home and getting on with the rest of their lives and as you know the reason they feel that way is they've just done an outstanding job,” Grigsby said by phone.
Grigsby says he'll be coming home with the main body of more than 3500 soldiers with the rest of the 3rd HBCT. He says they are expected to be home the first few weeks in May.
