A tour of the world came to Fort Benning today without leaving the gates. The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, or WHINSEC held a cultural expo.

Chiti Choy is from Peru and is teaching students about his county.

“I think it’s great, I always wanted to know how the country is. I’m very happy to be here,” he said.

Major Choy is student at WHINSEC. He represented his home country of Peru, joining 19 other countries from across the Western Hemisphere. WHINSEC held the event at Faith Middle School on Fort Benning to give students a cultural understanding of Western Hemisphere countries.

“I’ve loved Spanish ever since I was little and it’s very exciting. They have different kinds of dresses and materials and crops, it’s just really interesting,” Deborah Hammond, a Hardaway high school freshman said.

Students had the opportunity to listen to music, speak Spanish and learn about different cultures through music and artwork.

“It’s important for me to come and learn about all these countries, just in case I have to learn about one or go to one of them,”  said Karl Ivey.
