Utility crews have been working through the weekend to restore power to residents in some parts of Alabama and Georgia.News 3 On Your Side
Spokespeople for Georgia Power and Alabama Power say high winds and debris on power lines have been causing problems for customers.
News 3 talked to some residents that were worried trees on their property could cause more damage to power lines and to their homes.
Michael Shabo lives in Auburn. Shabo’s neighbor lost power Saturday night when a pine tree fell on power lines running to his house.
“I have got a couple of pine trees that are close to my house, and we unfortunately can't get our insurance company to help with preventative maintenance, so we are kind of left on our own. It is kind of nerve wracking, gets a little bit scary.”
Insurance agents we spoke with say it is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain trees near your house.
Georgia Power says if you think trees on your property might be threatening main power lines, you can request that those trees be trimmed. You can do so by calling 1-888-660-5890.
Alabama Power says they trim trees with the homeowner's permission, they also say that you can request to have your trees trimmed. You can call Alabama Power at 1-800-245-2244 to request someone to assess trees on your property.
