A petition against high gas prices is growing and it's getting attention from all over. News 3 On Your Side
Pete Burns started the petition two weeks ago because he was sick of paying so much at the pump.
Now, he has over 6,000 signatures and he's hoping for more.
Those signatures are not just coming from Manchester; people from all over have been calling him wanting to sign the petition.
A man from Pennsylvania called him this weekend, wanting to set up petitions in his area.
“We can make a difference but I need your help, your signature, and lets take this across the United States,” says Burns.
Burns is planning on coming to Columbus later this week to set up petitions in area businesses.
Because of all the people wanting to sign the petition, burns also set up a website, where you can download the petitions.
The site is called highfuelcost.com and will be up and running by tomorrow.
We have gotten a lot of comments from viewers wanting to sign the petition and thanking Burns for doing something about the gas prices.
But some viewers are not sure it will do anything.
Brad writes: “What good is a petition going to do? Since when have the haves listened to the have nots?
Tim Justice is the dean of the Applied Business School at Columbus Technical College.
He's taught economics for 17 years.
He says Burns’ petition makes us all feel better but will do little good for a long term solution.
“No, and the simple reason is he's too small, the idea is noble but it just won't work, the people in Saudi Arabia just don't care, most of our gas prices originate the country not locally,” says Justice.
Justice says the best way to fight back is to conserve fuel.
The only way costs will go down is if we use less and produce more.
Burns feels that if he gets enough signatures and sends them to his representatives, something will have to be done.
Justice says the officials will look at the petition and take them seriously, but they have little control of gas prices.
