Work has begun on the old Baker Village Apartments.

The 1940's buildings are being torn down to make way for mixed-income housing. Door and windows have been removed from the units.

Demolition should start by mid February, before construction begins on 148 new units.

“Unit construction will probably begin in late August or September of this year and that will take a year for the first phase,” said Len Williams, Housing Authority Director.

Baker Village housed Fort Benning soldiers before becoming public housing.
