Columbus, Georgia- A second straight big game from centerfielder Abraham Almonte lifted the Charleston RiverDogs to an 11-7 victory over the Columbus Catfish at Golden Park. Almonte blast 2 homeruns in a 4 for 5 effort Sunday, totaling 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Charleston was also helped to their 11 run output by designated hitter Jesus Montero and catcher Austin Romine, who each added 3 hits. However, first baseman Wady Rufino had arguably just as big an impact as Almonte, plating 5 RBI on 2 hits, including a double and a homerun.Columbus Catfish Media Relations

Stumble It!Columbus started off early with the lead, as Cody Cipriano hit a first inning two-run homer. First baseman Henry Wrigley followed that up with a big-fly of his own in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-0. Right-hander Alex Cobb (2-2) made a solid start for the ‘Fish, going 5 1/3 innings, but appeared to injure him self in the top of the sixth and struggled subsequently. The RiverDogs scored 6 runs on 4 hits in that inning; and took the lead for the first time in the ballgame at 7-4.
Singles from Montero, Snyder, Romine, and a homerun from Rufino gave Charleston an 11-4 lead that the Catfish would not be able to recover from. Columbus mounted a small charge in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits and an error. Catcher Shawn Williams singled to lead off the inning, followed by a single from shortstop Joey Callender. After a groundball double-play from Emeel Salem, Cipriano singled to score Williams. Reid Fronk then socked a double to the left-centerfield gap scoring Cody Cipriano. After Greg Sexton reached first on an error by Charleston shortstop Carmen Angelini, Maiko Loyola walked, spurning a pitching change. Reliever Jason Stephens took over for Gabe Medina and promptly forced Mike McCormick to pop-up and end the game at 11-7.
The final game of the four-game series between the Charleston RiverDogs and the Columbus Catfish is scheduled for 7 PM Monday night.
