Six of the nation’s top 25 Division II men’s golf teams highlight the star-studded field. The event is being contested at the 6,548-yard, par 72 Houndslake Country Club in Aiken, S.C. The club centers around a 27-hole championship course designed in 1974 by Joe Lee, who planned the likes of Doral, La Costa, and Disney World.
Georgia College & State (+16) shaved 14 strokes off their opening round 303 to equal the Pacers for best round of the day, climbing into third place, 11 shots off the pace. Columbus State (+19), the defending PBC Champions, is fourth followed by Armstrong Atlantic State (+35), Lander (+37), and UNC Pembroke (+47).
CSU struggled to a 302 in the opening round and found itself 10 shots off the pace set by USC Aiken and nine shots in back of Clayton State when the second 18 began. CSU rallied on the opening nine of the second round, led by an eagle on the par-5 10th by Andrew Georgiou as the Cougars played the back nine first. Hunter Harper was the only player to mirror Georgiou's solid play for the full round, however, as JP van der Walt, Kyle Albright and Michael Hicks struggled on the final nine holes. The Cougars posted a team total of 293 in the round and sit 14 shots off the lead and three shots in back of GCSU for third place.
After Georgiou struggled to a 77 in the morning round, he caught fire in the afternoon and posted an outstanding round of 68, tying Wilcox for low round of the day. He sits alone in seventh place individually with a total of 145 (+1). Harper posted a 76 in the morning round, but rebounded nicely for an even par 72 in round two and is tied for 10th position individually at 148 (+4). van der Walt led the squad with a morning 73, but found the going tough coming in and posted an afternoon 76 for a 149 total, good for a tie for 12th. Albright (77-77) is tied for 23rd at 154, and Hicks (76-83-159) is tied for 29th.
