Cougar Golfers Third at Coker

Redshirt freshman Tyler Cashbaugh started his collegiate career with a bang on Monday, firing a 69 to lead Columbus State to a tie for third place after one round of the Coker College Invitational.

The event is being played on the Panther Lake Course at Orange County National, a par-72, 6,849-yard layout that will serve as the final stage of the PGA Tour's Q-school later this year.

St. Edwards set the pace on the day, led by individual leader Matt Smith's 66. St. Edwards put up a team score of 280 - eight under par - and lead second place Florida Southern (281) by one. CSU and Barry are just three shots back at 283 (-5), and Georgia College is fifth ate

287 (-1). Those five teams were the only ones of the Individually, 25 of 105 golfers broke par on the day.

Cashbaugh carded an eagle on the 16th hole to get to -5, but finished bogey-bogey for a 69. Andrew Georgiou birdied two of his last three holes to also shoot 69 for CSU, while Kyle Albright turned in a solid round of 71 (-1). JP van der Walt added a 74 in his CSU debut, while freshman Michael Hicks turned in a 77.

The teams will tee it up again on Tuesday in the final round of the event, hosted by Coker College.
