Columbus State continued its recent offensive explosion on Wednesday, this time against Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern, winning by a whopping 12-0 margin. The 12 goals is a new school single-game mark, breaking the record of nine set in 2005 against Thomas University. CSU has now scored 26 goals in its last three games.- from CSU Sports Information
Cortney Norris got the scoring started just over three minutes into play as she took a redirect from Jill Walthall and punched it in for a 1-0 lead. Walthall then got in on the action just three minutes later as she took a Hannah Ospina pass and scored for a 2-0 lead. Stephanie Parrish then sent the Lady Cougars into the half with her first career hat trick, scoring in the 30th, 38th, and 43rd minutes to make it 5-0.
CSU got second-half goals from Gina Goforth, Kellie Myles, Kassy Boivin, Hannah Ospina, Jessica Woodson, and a pair of scores from KC MacEachern to finish out the record-setting win. For the game, CSU out- shot GSW 42-2 and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. The shutout is the fourth straight for CSU (13-3-1) and 10th of the season.
Individually, Woodson had four assists in the game to go with her goal, while Hannah Ospina had a pair of assists. The hat trick by Parrish gave her the team lead in goals with 10 on the season.
CSU clinched a share of the PBC championship for the third straight year with the win and will try for its second-straight out-right title on Saturday at GC & SU. Kickoff is set for 7 PM in Milledgeville.
