Columbus, GA – The Columbus Catfish (12-6) beat the Kannapolis Intimidators (11-7) by the score of 7-5 due to a walk off home run by Reid Fronk.Columbus Catfish Media Relations
The Catfish would take the lead early putting up 2 quick runs in the first inning. The 2 runs were scored on a double by Greg Sexton that scored Shawn O’Malley; followed by a single to right field by Quinn Stewart that scored Greg Sexton.
Columbus and the Intimidators would go on to exchange runs in the 4th inning each putting up 2. Kannapolis’s 2 runs come off a deep 2 run home run to center field that cleared the top of the trees by Mark Fleisher. The Catfish’s 2 runs were more conventional with a double by Stephen Vogt that scored Quinn Stewart, and s ingle to center field by Henry Wrigley that scored Stephen Vogt.
The Catfish would add the lead in 5th inning via a single from Quinn Stewart that scored Shawn O’Malley that put the Catfish up 5-2, but the Intimidators were not done. As they answered back in the sixth with 2 runs of their own off a sacrifice fly by Mark Fleisher that scored Eduardo Escobar and a single by Christian Marrero that scored Jim Gallagher.
With 2 outs in the eighth and the score 5-4 the Catfish turned to Austin Hinkle to maintain the lead. Hinkle would be unable to hold the Intimidators as he gave up a single to Brent Morel that scored Eduardo Escobar. The run tied the game up at 5-5 and extra innings started to look like a possibility.
Kannapolis turned to Leroy Hunt who had not allowed a run in his last 7 and a 1/3 inning. That did not lost long as Reid Fronk came to the plate with Shawn O’Malley on first who had reached via a walk. With a ball and 2 strikes Reid Fronk lifted a ball over the fences in center field to give Columbus the victory by a score of 7 to 5.
