Athens, GA - A day after its first scrimmage of the fall, the Georgia football team returned to the practice fields Tuesday afternoon for a two hour workout in shells.UGA Sports Information
After watching film from Monday¹s scrimmage, head coach Mark Richt singled out the play of several Bulldogs.
"Jeffrey (Owens) and Geno (Atkins) didn¹t play a lot, but when they did they dominated," Richt said. "The offense couldn¹t do much when those two were
in there. Justin Houston had bright moments, Jarius Wynn had a strong day, and Rennie (Curran) played well. CJ Byrd had some good hits on wide
receivers, and Vance Cuff played very well in goal line."
Richt also noted that sophomore offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant, who was injured in Monday¹s scrimmage, will undergo reconstructive surgery on his left knee next week.
"Trinton was bigger, stronger and more experienced than he was a year ago," Richt said. He had been practicing so hard. I¹m still sick about it. He's in good spirits and we are going to support him."
According to UGA Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson, Sturdivant suffered a multiple ligament injury and will require a 9-12 month rehab. He is expected to fully recover within 12 months.
Sophomore Josh Davis worked with the first unit in Sturdivant¹s absence Tuesday.
"Josh had a very good practice today," Richt said. His energy level moved up a notch and I like what I saw. He's running with the No. 1 unit and he¹s in
the lead for that position right now."
The Bulldogs will hold their third two-a-days practice Wednesday with sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
