MIAMI (AP) - Parts of the Texas and Louisiana coasts were placed under tropical storm warnings today because of a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico that is expected to become a named storm.
At 10 a.m. Central time, the ninth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour and its center was about 85 miles south-southwest of Galveston, Texas.
Forecasters said it was moving toward the north near 6 miles per hour and its center should be crossing the Texas coast within the warning area later today.
