2 Meriwether County men arrested in Pennsylvania after 440 pounds of marijuana found in car

MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. - Two Meriwether County residents were arrested in Pennsylvania on drug and firearm charges, according to The Meriwether Vindicator.

64-year-old Herman Ward of Warm Springs and 44-year-old David Lee Mitchell of Manchester were arrested back on January 24 after their pick-up truck was stopped on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. The truck was towing a trailer with a van on it.

Chief Deputy Warden Mac McDuffie tells the Vindicator that they found 440 pounds of suspected marijuana vacuumed for distribution inside the van. McDuffie says the two were reportedly traveling from New York back to their home in Meriwether County when they were pulled over.

A loaded .45-caliber handgun and a Bond Defender handgun were found inside the truck, according to McDuffie.

The two were charged with conspiracy to manufacture and deliver marijuana, intent to manufacture and deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and possession of firearms during a commission of a crime.

Ward and Mitchell were released from the Mercer County Jail February 5.

Ward's bond was set at $100,000 while Mitchell's was set to $50,000.
