Columbus police identify Saturday night car chase suspects

UPDATE:

10/15/2017, 7:00 P.M. -- The Columbus Police Department confirms two men are in jail after leading police on a chase late Saturday night.

The suspects are now identified as 31-year-old Jesus Jimenez and 19-year-old Cameron Workman.

Police say Jimenez was driving a red sedan when he was pulled over on Victory Drive some time around 9:30 p.m. Jimenez reportedly started shooting at officers as he tried to drive off.

Police tell News 3 the sedan crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Victory Drive and Veteran's Parkway. Both Jimenez and Workman tried to get away on foot, but were caught a short distance away.

Jimenez faces a total 24 charges including DUI, aggravated assault, and an additional charge alleging he tried to grab an officer's gun when he was caught. Workman is charged with misdemeanor obstruction and possession of drug paraphernalia.

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Police say a car chase that started on Victory Drive is now over with the suspects in custody.

A heavy police presence is on the scene at the 3rd Avenue and 4th Street intersection where the suspects were caught just before 10 p.m.

Officers tell News 3's Ken Martin the suspects' red sedan was pulled over for a traffic violation on Victory Drive. The occupants reportedly started shooting at police while they sped off.

Officers chased the suspects down to the intersection of Victory Drive and Veteran's Parkway where the sedan crashed into another vehicle.

The suspects tried to escape on foot, but were caught near the Circle K gas station on 4th Street.

The exact number of suspects is unclear, but they will face charges for aggravated assault and DUI, as well as drug charges.

No officers were hurt in the shooting.
