UPDATE: Sheriff office releases IDs of burglary suspects after chase ends in Opelika

UPDATE 03/22/18 5:20 p.m.

Lee County Sheriff's Office has released the identify of the two individuals who were arrested Thursday morning after a car chase ended in Opelika.

20-year-old Marterries Traylor of Opelika and 22-year-old Kelton Kiwon Devontae Edwards of Opelika where arrested on charges of Burglary I and Theft II.

Their bond was set at $6,000.

The investigation remains under investigation and additional charges are anticipated.


LEE COUNTY, Ala. - Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says two burglary suspects are in custody after chase ends near Harper Avenue and South Street.

Sheriff Jones says they responded to a burglary call in Beauregard Thursday morning along Highway 51. Responding deputies encountered the suspect's vehicle and a chase ensued. 

The chase ended when the suspects crashed into a deputy's SUV near the intersection of Harper Avenue and South Street in Opelika where the suspects took off running and later caught by deputies.

Sheriff Jones says the investigation is in the early stages, but deputies have recovered some stolen property in the vehicle, including a firearm.

Sheriff Jones says a deputy suffered minor injuries while taking one of the suspects into custody with help from the Opelika Police Department.
