Macon County father murdered in front of his young child

Victim's parents asking God for comfort, investigators for justice

MACON CO., Ala. (WRBL) - Macon County investigators are searching for a killer or killers in their first murder of 2018. Friday night, 35-year old Ennon Hayden Jr. was shot and killed in front of his 4-year old child, who was thankfully not injured.

Hayden's mother and father spoke with News 3 about asking God for comfort and investigators for justice.

"It's hard to lose your child, it's even harder to lose him like that," said Ennon Hayden Sr.

Mr. Hayden and his namesake, 35-year-old Ennon Hayden Junior were more than just father and son; they were business partners and best friends.  Friends and family called the younger Hayden, "EJ."

"My son was the image of me. He had my ways and my demeanor. He was my heart. I love all of my children. EJ was there for me day and night, he was just a great boy," said Hayden Sr.

The Hayden family is known in Macon County for owning Hayden's Automotive along County Road 13.

"EJ was a great young man. He worked hard at his job, his dad's shop. He had really good parents and a good family. We want to know how something like that could happen and get justice for this family," said Sheriff Andre Brunson.

Friday night, investigators say EJ was shot while he and his four-year-old child were inside his parents home. His sister found EJ and called her parents who were leaving a church conference in Birmingham. Investigators say it's possible EJ, who lives behind his parents, interrupted a burglary at his mom and dad's home located next door to their automotive shop.

"I know we can't bring him back. Hopefully one day I'll find it in my heart to forgive them for what they did. But, for now, I want justice," said Hayden Sr.

If you have any information on the murder of Ennon Hayden Junior, you are asked to call the Macon County Sheriff's Office; you can remain anonymous.
