Police: Tuskegee arrested in Auburn for breaking into a car and stealing property

AUBURN, Ala. - A Tuskegee man is behind bars after police say he broke into an unlocked car and stole items from it.

23-year-old Jeremy Ewell was arrested Wednesday, May 16 on felony warrants charging him with Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle and Theft of Property Third Degree.

Ewell's arrest is the result of an investigation into reports of unlocked cars being unlawfully entered and property taken from inside of them while parked at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Dekalb Street on May 6th. One of those cars was a 2015 BMW 228i. Inside the car was a purse, keys, cash, and credit cards stolen totaling over $1,500.

The police investigation revealed that one of the stolen credit cards was immediately used at a local business by an individual; resulting in Ewell being developed as a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.

Ewell was transported to the Lee County Jail where he remains in custody on a $4,500 bond.
