COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) - A 74-year-old man has been found dead at his Alta Vista Drive home Sunday, according to the Muscogee County Coroner.

Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms to News 3 the victim, William Meadows, was found in the driver's seat of his vehicle suffering a gunshot wound around 10:45 a.m. Bryan also confirms Meadows was found by a friend who came by to visit every week.

Bryan pronounced Meadows dead at 11 a.m. on the scene. He also says Meadows had been dead for at least 19 hours, which lines up with reports of shots fired in the area that neighbors reported to CPD around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Bryan says Meadows' death is being investigated as a homicide, and would mark the 13th murder of the year in Columbus. He also adds Meadows' body is on its way to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
