Springer Opera House announces opening of film institute

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Springer Opera House announced its newest journey during a news conference Wednesday.

The Springer Film Institute Artistic Director, Paul Pierce, says the film-making industry in Georgia is now a $9.5 billion dollar business.

Pierce says Columbus is a great place to seize some of that business. Springer Film Institute will offer multiple courses, that vary in time and cost, and Pierce says he hopes these courses being available will cultivate creativity here in the valley.

"What we would like to do is formalize what had been informal before, we have hired a producer and a director that will be working exclusively on film here, and the idea is we want to create an indigenous film culture here in Columbus that tells Columbus Georgia stories," says Paul Pierce.

Courses will start in March, where students can learn filmmaking, screen writing, film-editing and acting.
