Woman killed in I-85 crash in Chambers Co. identified, driver hospitalized

10/6/17, 1:00 P.M. -- The Lanett Police Department on Friday confirms new information on a deadly accident in Chambers County.

A press release says members of the Lanett Police Department, Lanett Fire and EMS, and Huguley Fire Department were called to the accident scene Thursday night just before 6 p.m. ET.

When first responders made it to mile marker 74 on I-85 south bound, they found a red Tahoe had gone off the road and into the wood line.

The statement says the driver, 22-year-old Jerniski Dorsey of Lanett, had been thrown from the vehicle. His passenger, 21-year-old Breanna Harris of West Point, was found nearby and pronounced dead on the scene.

Dorsey was treated by EMS on the scene and later transported to Midtown Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

A preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling south bound on I-85 when it left the roadway and crashed into the guard rail. The Tahoe then went over the guard rail and hit a tree, ejecting both driver and passenger who weren't wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lanett Police Department. Anyone with any information regarding the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Waldrop with the Lanett Police Department at 334-644-2146.
