Fifth grader arrested for making threats at school

EUFAULA, Ala (WRBL) - Eufaula Police Department says they arrested a 13-year-old on Thursday for making threatening comments at school.

Police say the comments were made towards a teacher and other students.

Eufaula detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division interviewed the student and found sufficient probable cause to take the juvenile into custody.

Police say students nor faculty were in any immediate danger.

The student was arrested for making a Terrorist Threat (13A-10-15), which is a class C felony. The student was processed through the Eufaula City Jail and transferred to the Southeast Alabama Youth Services Diversion Center awaiting a juvenile hearing.

Eufaula Police released this statement in reference to threats taken within educational institutions.

The Eufaula Police Department has taken, and will continue to hold, a firm stance on threats made against our students or educational institutions.  We urge parents to speak to their children and explain that threats made out of anger or ignorance will have severe consequences.  We will continue to investigate any communication of harm to our schools and take the appropriate legal action.  It is irrelevant to us if these comments are made in jest, mimicry or intimidation, they will be treated seriously.  We urge parents, students and school personnel to continue to notify our Department if they are aware of any threatening incident.
